Angola is one of Africa’s fastest growing business travel destinations and the Luanda International Airport (LAD) is the biggest, the most important and the main entry port of the country.

The Quatro de Fevereiro International Airport – as it is known - offers direct flight links to neighbouring South Africa, Namibia and Mozambique and to regional destinations in Nigeria, Ethiopia and Kenya as well as to some major cities of Europe, Asia, Middle East and South America.

The 4 de Fevereiro International Airport is located in the southern part of Luanda. It resides at an elevation of 243 feet (74 m) above the sea level and has two asphalt paved runways. The airport has been rebuilt and its facilities were improved in 2010; giving it bigger and more modern arrivals and departures area. The number of check-in desks was increased from 2 to 26 and three new luggage conveyor systems were installed in the arrivals area.

During the modernization process, the support services for the 4 de Fevereiro Airport, such as customs, tax police and the immigration service, were supplied with modern equipment and new facilities.

The International Airport of Luanda also increased its passenger-handling capacity from 1. 2 to 3.6 million per year and gained three new parking lots, with a capacity for a total of 856 cars, including handicapped parking areas and an automatic control and management system.

The airport’s name “Quatro de Fevereiro” means 4th February, which is an important national holiday in Angola, marking the start of the armed struggle against the Portuguese colonial regime on 4 February 1961.
